Cameroon, like many African countries, is undergoing a democratic evolution. This case study explores the perceptions of Cameroonian citizens about democracy, based on a survey conducted in 2024. The collected data provides a unique insight into the expectations, criticisms, and hopes of Cameroonians regarding democratic governance.
Objective: To understand the level of support for democracy in Cameroon and assess citizens’ satisfaction with current democratic practices.
Challenge: Despite progress, Cameroon still faces challenges such as corruption, limited political freedoms, and weak accountability of elected officials.
Methodology: Survey conducted among 1,200 Cameroonian adults between February and March 2024.

74% reject autocratic regimes, including one-party rule and military dictatorship.
Only 29% of citizens are satisfied with the current functioning of democracy.
